The Cut
This narrow lane runs between houses set so close together that it is
barely possible for people to pass each other. What little light there is
appears to be swallowed by mist wafting along the lane from either end.
The houses are of timber frame construction, with large exposed beams.
Most are thatched. Wisps of smoke curl from their chimneys, and the smell
of burning peat and wood mingles with the slightly sharp smell of the mist.

The path curves around a large magnolia tree, almost forty feet high.
It is covered with large white flowers, which emit a strong, sweet scent.
The path is edged with stone blocks, possibly in an attempt to stop it

The path forms a circle around a rose which climbs up an elaborate iron
frame. The frame is made in the shape of a large cage, around seven feet

Promenade
This wide cobbled path runs alongside the beach and appears to have been
constructed to allow the town's inhabitants to enjoy the sea air without
becoming entangled with the carts running to and from the harbor. Above
the path, a flight of steps provides access to a pleasure garden.

Western Promenade
A wide path runs parallel to the beach. It is separated from the beach
by a cart track, which runs across the beach from the harbor to the town.
The ground slopes steeply here, as a result of which the path is several

town. A large half-timbered building stands at this end of the track, its

the sea can be seen in the distance.

The Ancient Mariner
The interior of this inn is dark and smoky. Thick oak beams, blackened
with age, run across the ceiling. A large fireplace at one end holds a few
smoking logs: blackened kettles and pans nearby suggest that it is used for
cooking. At the other end is a narrow bar, on which stand wooden kegs of
various sizes and a selection of pewter tankards.

A strongly built stone wall, about fifteen feet thick and some twenty
feet out of the water, runs south from this point to enclose the harbor.
