The Empress's Chamber
Everything in this room is a red of the reddest reds, overwhelmingly
red. Ubiquitous strands of golden webbing only heighten the impact.
High in the right-hand corner of the chamber is a vast, sparkling mass
of the finest silk that has been inlaid with jewels and bits of metal in
a delicate mosaic. The silk itself has been arranged in tiny abstract
geometric forms that fit together as neatly as the pieces of a silver
puzzle. The chamber is also home to innumerable pieces of art. Some
of the sculpture adorning the vast chamber is representational, but a
surprising amount is grotesquely abstract. Silken parallelograms vie
with stress patterns for floor space. The colors of both sculptures and
furniture are subdued in shade but bright of hue: orange, crimson, black,
and purple, deep blues and deeper greens. There are no pastels at all.
The quintessence of deadliness has taken the form of a wolf spider.

The Grand Webmistress possesses a bulbous body that's nearly three feet

mesmerizingly. The spinnerets daintily move in rhythm with the jerking
of the dark, hollow fangs in their sheaths, for the Grand Webmistress
must have only just dined with (and on) one of her numerous husbands.
Delicate and nearly transparent white silks encompass much of her body.
They appear to be embroidered with miniature scenes of Gossameringue
life. This attire is impressive and yet sober enough for a queen.
