Hephaestus god forge | |
A disfigured man with coal-blackened skin expertly pounds a sword into shape.
Hephaestus is the god of fire and artisans, son of Zeus and Hera. He is grossly disfigured from the hips down, but manages to wield the hammer and tongs with incredible force and precision. Legend tells that he was expelled from Olympus by his mother who was ashamed of his physical lameness, but was allowed to return when his talents were discovered. From his forges came many marvels, among them the first mortal woman Pandora, into whom the gods breathed life. An expert at the art of metalsmithing, he is known to forge fine jewelry, weapons and armors. Hephaestus is the husband of Aphrodite. Hephaestus is in an excellent condition.
