4:tiny avian embryo | |
A tiny embryo is breaking its ivory shell.
At this stage in life, this embryo is partially exposed, with feet outside the bottom of the shell while the remaining portions of the body continue to grow inside. A slight form is visible where the body leans against the inside wall of the shell. The ivory shell is weak and only offers slight protection from birds that fly overhead. It's more so the color of the shell that blends into the dust, and the fact that the embryos are camouflaged in vines that protect them until they hatch rather than their shell.
